A real mixture of hog roast jobs was on the menu for myself and the whole Spitting Pig team last month. From the first week of the month you could sense it would be a consuming one as we catered for many hundreds of people on Friday to Sunday with hog roast and snack in a roll menus for birthday party events. In any other month the many birthday parties or wedding receptions I hog roasted for would be worth talking about by themselves, but in October there were 2 events that stole the limelight for me.
The first big event in London was a very fun one to be involved in, I was with the team at none other than Hyde Park for the Royal Parks half-marathon, specifically for the The Brakes Food & Fitness Festival after the race where we were part of the farmers market. Myself and Lucy made a pig roast and a chicken roast for everyone there. There were so many people about but the large pig and ample whole chickens we cooked lasted the course of the day. We got to meet many of the racers who’d taken part and despite being exhausted they still found the energy to gnaw through the snack rolls we were serving.
And of course we couldn’t let this months hog roast blog end without me telling you about the obligatorily Halloween event that we’ve had bookings for every year since Spitting Pig began, without exception. This year we were catering for a zombie pub crawl. There were hundreds of people who turned up to the Leicester Square pub we catered at, we couldn’t spit or tray roast a human for legal reasons so we settled on a spit roast pig with the zombie organisers. The guests ravished the hog roast while wearing the finest zombie costumes we’ve probably ever seen, it really did feel like we were on the set of a Hollywood film with the brilliant makeup and authentic masks. The guests broke zombie character to thank me and my Spitting Pig acquaintance on the finger-lickin’ spit roasted pig.
