The season is finally starting to begin. This event was at a wonderful house in Halloway. The journey was one that we make hundreds of times a year and certainly on the way back I can accurately guess what time I will reach base. However this wedding was on a Friday. The wonderful part about repeat bookings is that there are not too many surprises. Access is simple, with staff always willing to help and keen to have a look.
The venue is a beautiful detached gated house in hog roast Halloway which even has outdoor heaters, a welcome extra. Once all was set up it was time for a spot of lunch, which I always try and keep healthy.
The area that the Hog Roast was in was wonderful, we set up under an outdoor marquee. There were various guests who stopped to chat, and the conversation soon moved to questions about the pig – age, size, name etc. I in turn asked where they had come from. Some were local from Cookham Dean and Bisham. The father of the bride was from Belfast which then help me appreciate that this was not going to be a quiet event !! A little later guests ambled across from the main hotel for the wedding breakfast which started at 5. All seemed ran very smoothly. A little the vocalist arrived to set up, however a quick natter highlighted a problem over noise levels. He had worked there on many occasions and so he was quite ready for a little bit of ‘crowd control’ !
Once the wedding breakfast was over everyone piled out to the bar in true Irish fashion. Since I was next to the bar I was mobbed and had to entertain guests with the usual chit chat. Great fun listening to all the banter (and singing). This was going to be a lively one.
Since the main dining room was being re-set for the evening, it gave me a chance to admire the cake which was unusual in its style. It was impressive.
It was soon time for all the guests to pile back in and start dancing and to work off some of their energy and food.
Soon it was my turn to start carving, all on time and immediately noticed by the various on lookers.
Great event, great wedding. Hopefully back in hog roast Holloway again soon.
