Blown away at Amber and Brads wedding. Spitting Pig are today hog roast catering at Haste Hill Golf Club in Northwood, Middlesex for Amber and Brad who are tying the knot. We are providing the hog roast Northwood catering and they will be supplying there own salads and a buffet to accompany the succulent hog roast pork with golden crisp crackling that will be served in a fresh flour bap with sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce.
Doing a hog roast in Haste Hill Golf Club is quite a demanding course and unfortunately I have had many a bad game here my self and was hoping that once I had started the hog cooking I might get nine holes in. I have been practicing over the last few months so was looking forward to knocking a few balls about and picking up a few birdies!
But when we woke up this morning I knew golf was not on the cards…The skies are nice and blue with big fluffy clouds, but the wind is atrocious. My drives tend to be a bit wayward and with this wind I could end up losing a lot of balls so I thought I’d give it a miss this time. I don’t know what has happened with the weather but at the moment it seems to be one storm after another.
We arrived at Haste Hill Golf Club nice and early and were greeted by Lauren. We were expecting to set up on a small patio at the rear of the function room which has a nice outlook over the first hole. But Lauren then told us that the Bride and Groom had had a marquee erected on the patio the evening before for us to cater under and for guests to mingle, but the high winds had blown the marquee down. When we had a look it was just carnage…. The marquee was a mangled mess with bent and twisted poles and the covers just in shreds.
Luckily we always have our own catering tents for hog roast catering in Middlesex so at least we would be sheltered from the wind and the rain during the day. We decided to set up on patio and soon had the fifty kilo free range hog in the hog roast Northwood machine and roasting away. It was so windy though that we had to use tin foil to seal the machine as the wind was swirling from all directions and blowing the flames out. We set up the catering tent and tied it to the railings and tables and placed the weights on the legs. Normally this would be fine but this weather lately is extreme and the marquee was still getting lifted off the ground and we were worried it might end up some where around the first tee.
All of a sudden there was a loud snapping noise and the straps had been ripped from the marquee and the roof was flapping like a broken yacht sail. The weights were not enough to keep the marquee stable and the whole structure was starting to head off down the fairway with us hanging on hopelessly.
We managed to recover the situation and collapsed the marquee to stop it blowing away and decided to try the other patio hoping it may offer a bit more protection. So again we set up, moved all the equipment, kept our fingers crossed and hoped for the best. We made a few repairs and used extra straps and although the wind never calmed down, we stayed in one piece for the rest of the day but it was a bit scary.
During the afternoon many golfers who had braved the conditions were finishing the eighteenth hole which was next to our hog roast in Northwood and were hoping for a nice hot pig in a bun to warm them selves up after a tough round. I should have cooked an extra hog and made a few bob on the side!!
The wedding party arrived around four o’clock, for nibbles and drinks and were told of the collapsed marquee by Lauren and that plans had been made to have the whole reception in the function room.
Our hog roast in Middlesex was cooked to perfection as usual and the golden crispy crackling was just amazing. The guests warmed them selves against our hog roast machine as they queued for the hog roast feast and took photos of the pig before we started carving.
Spitting Pig lead the way in hog roast catering in Northwood and the service we offer is just head, shoulders and even trotters above other hog roast catering companies. Just little things like buttered rolls, sauces and mustard really do make the difference and of course the very friendly and professional approach that we have to hog roasts catering client’s blows people away. Once again the guests at another hog roast wedding in Northwood were wowed and thrilled with our hog roast catering. We received so many good comments on how well cooked the pork was and how amazing the crackling tasted.
Hope fully the weather will take a turn and spring will be with us soon and that is when people start to want to party and entertain again after a few miserable cold grey months, so if you have an important celebration or event or maybe organizing your company ball this summer then look no further than Spitting Pig Hertfordshire for your hog roast catered event.
