As expert secret keepers, Hog Roast Epsom is regularly asked to assist with surprise birthday celebrations, but it’s not often we get the chance to cater for a wedding proposal! Sure, we’ve experienced our fair share of surprise engagements, but rarely are we in on the action; which is what made our most recent event extremely exciting. When Elijah first approached us with the idea to pop the question to his girlfriend of five years, our team couldn’t wait to get involved…
With his girlfriend, Chloe out of the house for a few hours, Elijah called Hog Roast Epsom to place his booking; and after first discussing the where and the how they quickly moved on to the menu options. Spoiled for choice, but desperate to get it right for what would be one of life’s most important and nerve wracking days, the client decided to take some time to think things over before calling back. Impressed with how patient and understanding our team had been, the following day, Elijah was back on the phone, this time knowing exactly what he wanted: the southern slow-roast menu.
Inspired by classic American cuisine, the southern slow-roast menu is one of our more popular buffets which clients and their guests go wild for; and on the day of the event, the Hog Roast Epsom team headed to Elijah’s chosen countryside beauty spot to start cooking it. Having arrived hours before the happy couple, or the 60 guests, the team used their time to create enough BBQ pork butt, Texan 24 hour beef brisket, Cajun spiced whole roast chickens and side salads for everyone.
Before long, the guests began arriving and following Elijah’s orders they took they hid from view. When the couple arrived, Chloe was shocked to see Hog Roast Epsom cooking a succulent feast, but before she could ask what was going on, Elijah got down on one knee and pulled a small, velvet box from his pocket which he opened to reveal a dazzling engagement ring. Taken aback by his surprise proposal, Chloe nodded in answer before turning to see her final surprise: that their immediate families and closest friends had witnessed everything!
After an emotional, but magical afternoon everyone was grateful to have the delicious buffet to tuck into which made being outside in winter all that more bearable.
